Skeletons in our Closet

by The Broken Hearts

We've been lucky enough recently to acquire a few new pieces to squeeze into our already bursting wardrobes. We thought it was high time we shared these secrets with you!

First of all (and definitely not to be secret for much longer) is the great new designer, Henrietta Ludgate. Henrietta's sculpural designs are fantastic, and her inspirations range from her Scottish heritage to one of our own favourite designers, the legendary Elsa Schiaparelli. Her support of local industry (all fabrics are sourced from within the British Isles and everything is produced locally) also bagged her the Ethical Fashion Forum's 'Fashion Innovation Award' for London Fashion Week S/S 2010. With judges on the panel ranging from Roland Mouret to Dolly Jones of Vogue.co.uk and Yasmin Sewell of Liberty, you can see that it's only a matter of time before she hits the big time! Here are some of our favourite Henrietta moments...

Trying on her new collection at her London Showroom in Covent Garden; you can call 0207 193 2454 or email press@henriettaludgate.com to make appointments.

At the launch of Twin magazine, also sporting our favourite Melissa shoes.

We also wore her fabulous skirts all over London Fashion Week, including Lee Paton's show at Wilton's Music Hall - this time accompanied by our House of Flora berets and our ubiquitous Vivienne Westwood for Melissa shoes again.

Next up is our old friend, the amazingly charismatic Amechi Ihenacho. Amechi, who is also the Fashion Editor at FLUX magazine, has been making us costumes for years, so we were delighted when he announced that he's FINALLY launching his own official label. It's about time! He also makes costumes for Shingai from The Noisettes and Paloma Faith so we've no doubt that his amazing creations will catch on. Most recently Amechi made us these incredible bespoke broken-hearted, 1940s-inspired jackets:

True genius! Here he is, hard at work finishing them off in his studio...

The Daily Mail called us Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum when we wore these dresses on the red carpet to the Q Awards. We took it as quite a compliment!

This great harlequin dress accompanied us to the Paul Smith party (above) during last London Fashion Week, and we also wore them when we appeared on T4's Frock Me. You can find out more about his collection, and hear Amechi discuss it, on Diane Pernet's blog here. We recommend you check it out!

We had some great news when the Bebaroque girls got in touch to ask if they could use some haed pieces we'd made for their latest phtoshoot. Of course we were more than happy to oblige! Their amazing tights are beloved of stylists everywhere, as they turn even the most mundane of outfits into something extra special. Stocked in Liberty and Urban Outfitters (amongst others), and featured everywhere from Vogue to i-D and Grazia, these tights are hardly a secret in style-savvy circles, but they couldn't go without a mention, regardless of their popularlty! They're made in Scotland using hand embroidery and print, so also fulfill all ethical credentials.

The intricate prints are exquisite. We're lucky enough to have some bespoke bow tights (on the right) - ours are naturally in black and white.

Here's the shot from their latest collection featuring pearl headpieces made by yours truly...

Here's one we made earlier... Here we are in the headpieces at the Last Gasp Masked Ball back in June 2007.

Last but certianly not least, we definitely couldn't go without mentioning some T-shirts that we've designed along with illustrator Rob Flowers for the online boutique Cococareer. Cococareer is run by the lovely Verena, and stocks everything from jewellery to catsuits and fine art prints. You can even buy our single! So when she asked us totake part in the Art on Fashion project we were very excited. The project also features designs by artists such as Paul Noble and Georgina Starr, so it's definitely worth having a look at.

Here we are in our 'Fix Up, Look Sharp' design, a collaboration with Rob Flowers:

And you can buy your very own here!

While you're looking through Cococareer, you may also want to check out the accessories by Chelsea Rebelle. We couldn't resist these collars that come in black and white and look great over anything from a simple vest to a sculptural dress.

You can get hold of your very own here!

Until next time, happy shopping!
